Active approaches to Shakespeare CPD session
Overview: Thursday 29 April 4-5.30pm on ZOOM.
The CPD Session led by Jan Anderson, Literacy Coordinator at Springhead Primary School in Staffordshire along with the New Vic Theatre Education team will engage Primary teachers from EYFS, Reception up to Year 6 in active storytelling approaches through Shakespeare.
For the past 8 years, the New Vic Theatre has been the regional theatre partner for the Royal Shakespeare Company. This programme, which includes CPD, develops techniques for making Shakespeare and other rich text more accessible to children and young people, through an active approach inspired by the rehearsal room itself. During this time, we have seen a hugely positive response from the schools we work with, in particular how children are learning to unlock meaning for themselves, develop confidence, team learning and enrich their own writing skills. Join us to hear from Jan Anderson, Deputy Head and literacy co-coordinator at our lead partner school, about the effect of the programme on her own practice and research and take part in a practical and enjoyable taster session of the work.
‘The impact across the whole school of the Associate Schools Programme has been immense. This is not just in terms of the children’s progress in literacy and in particular, writing, but also engagement in learning and behaviour.’ Brian Anderson – Head Teacher, Springhead Primary School, Talke Pits Staffordshire. (RSC Associate Schools Programme, Lead School, North Staffordshire).
The Practical Workshop will include:
